I've finally finished the POV redo on Hallow House, and from here on out it's full steam ahead. With any luck, the words will come fast and furious, and I'll live ala Danielle Steel (whose books I do not read at all) in sweat pants and tee shirts, existing on caffeine and nicotine (down to 5 ciggies a day now and holding strong.), forgetting to eat meals, etc. This happens with every book I write, and I'm pretty sure it's some kind of writer-magick-transcendental-obsessive thing. 'Open a vein and bleed,' said writer Red Smith (paraphrased).

Local weather says it's not snowing today. Well, I know what I see with my eyes when I look out the window near my desk. That's fluffy white happiness coming down from the sky, uh huh.

Oh, before I forget...I started reading The Rising by Brian Keene last night. Excellent zombie novel--it takes off at a gruesome lumbering gallop and so far (I'm on page 91), there's no sign of slowing down. I love page turners!

Okay, so now the sun is shining and it's still snowing. Devil must be spanking his wife or something.

Time for my daily bloodletting on Hallow House, which now stands at 40K words. By most calculations in word length 40K is at the low end of novel length. It's less than halfway done; I'm anticipating it will be somewhere in the 90-100K range.

I am about to hemorrhage; I can feel it coming :-)

Well, to SELL the novel as a novel it needs to be at least 60k and probably between 80 and 100 is best these days, unless you are ALREADY Danielle Steele, or SKING or one of their tree-killing ilk (lol). My longest to date is Deep Blue and it's a whopping 120k.

DNW

PS I was Zeppelin, but I suspect that is because they had LOTR on the favorite movie list, but did not have Bladerunner.

120K is a good word length, DNW, and I'm looking forward to reading DEEP BLUE (got it on my book shopping list)! Most of my novels tend to stay within the 75-100K range, although one of the first I wrote clocked in at over 150K. What a whopper! Can't sell it, don't want to. Yes, it's *that* bad (lol).

Zeppelin is cool! I suspect I got Pink Floyd because of my Jesus-length hair, heh heh

These were my answers:
Hair: Jesus-ish
Listening to an album I've never heard: turn up the bass
Reading: always, and I own a billion books (probably not really a billion, but more like in the thousands)
fav movie: I picked the Wizard of Oz because, like you, my fav movie wasn't listed. Loved those flying monkeys, heh heh
How I want to die: I don't, so I picked the one about not dying (lol)
Influences: Nietzsche, Blake, Ingmar Bergman, and a little acid
Appealing lyrics: I picked Jumpin' Jack Flash

These were my answers:
Hair: Jesus-ish
Listening to an album I've never heard: All the way through without stopping.
Reading: always, and I own a billion books - shelves and house overflowing - Trish has as many as I do and they sort of fall over one another now in a huge mountain of words.
fav movie: I picked LOTR because none of the others were there.
How I want to die: Same as yours - not dying, writing obits.
Influences: Yours was my second choice. I dont' remember the choices, but it was a different one.
Appealing lyrics: I picked The Doors - don't recall what song.

Your house with all those books sounds like heaven to me--I'd be right at home if you folks wouldn't mind me curling up in a corner to read...after we all got acquainted, of course. Don't want you thinking I go to people's houses just to read their books...usually end up borrowing a book or two or three, but only after I get to know their owners :-)

The Doors tune was my second choice. Years ago, I used to have a life-sized Jim Morrison poster hanging on the ceiling over our bed but it creeped Hubby out so I had to take it down.

There are times when we'd pay people to borrow say, a few BOXES of books.

Mostly we haven't finished "becoming" this house...it's huge, but we make it seem small with the two older kids, the baby, and the cat - and our crap (lol).

Heehee, you ever need any book borrowers just let me know! I hear ya about running out of room.

Hubby tells me we'll be heading out for the city in a few minutes. Need more stuff for the house. Actually, just a phone that works. The one we have is older than dirt and it cuts off the line in mid-conversation. (Paid 50-cents for it a decade ago at a fireman's sale. Guess I got my money's worth.)
